PIPROTHERM PG is a premium antifreeze intended for industrial Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) installations. It is based on low-toxicity propylene glycol and contains effective corrosion inhibitors designed to protect the types of metals typically found in such systems.
PIPROTHERM PG will not only prevent freezing of system water but will also protect pipes from bursting at even lower temperatures. It does this by forming a slush once the mix begins to freeze. As ice crystals begin to form, the remaining fluid becomes richer in glycol and has a lower freeze point. Refer to the chart overleaf to find the freeze and burst protection temperatures for any mix ratio.
The freeze point of propylene glycol mixes cannot be measured by hydrometer, which is the usual method for determining the strength of automotive-type antifreeze mixes. The density of propylene glycol is very close to that of water, so instead a refractometer must be used, a device that measures the refraction of light as it passes through the mix.
This product is NOT recommended for automotive or marine cooling systems because it does not contain corrosion inhibitors needed to protect the metal found in such cooling systems. Instead we recommend using:
- GLOBAL ANTIFREEZE-automotive
- UNIVERSAL ANTIFREEZE-automotive and diesel
- IDC HEAVY DUTY EXTENDED LIFE COOLANT-diesel
PIPROTHERM PG is dyed yellow for easy identification and to help avoid mixing with other types of antifreeze.
The allowable pH range of Irving PIPROTHERM PG is 9.0 to 10.5.
